Google Chrome OS revealed

November 19th, 2009 | 5 Comments | Posted in Tech News by Diego | - [Full Entry]

Google Chrome OS was finally revealed this morning. So what is it? Google Chrome OS is focused on making your OS revolve around an internet browser since we spend 90% of our time on the internet anyway. With that, all your files, music, applications, and whatnot will be accessed using the internet, thus eliminating the need to store anything on your PC. So where is everything going to be? In the cloud.

Impressions on Google Chrome OS

I don’t know about this, but I certainly don’t have access to a reliable internet connection 24/7 with my mobile laptop. Does that mean I wouldn’t have any access to any of my files when I’m on the road? Then, this would be useless for me in that situation.

Also, so far it only seems like its going to support a very small number of applications since its geared towards people who only use a computer for accessing the internet. What about developers? I use a lot of tools to program in various languages and platforms. Will this be suitable for me? So far, it looks like it won’t.

Either way, it looks quite interesting naturally being a Google product, but doesn’t necessarily look like something I’d switch over to yet. Maybe once it matures and comes closer to beta, I’ll probably be interested, but until they stick with having everything in the cloud and having a very specific functionality, I just don’t know.

Update: Believe it or not, you can actually download a build of the disk image. Check out Download the Google Chrome OS Virtual Machine from Geeklad.

It’s about time that Starcraft is being recognized as a new science. (If you haven’t heard of it, where have you been!? Check out Wikipedia – Starcraft) Oddly enough, these past few days I’ve been addicted to Starcraft so it feels like a sign. Maybe I should transfer?

Starcraft Course at UC Berkley

So is this class really happening? Apparently so. http://berkeleystarcraft.com is apparently the homepage for the course. There are only 60 seats available. We need to try to enroll! If you check out the website, you’ll see what their homework consists of. One question asks you to study specific tech trees and note its strengths and weaknesses. What? Come on I’d write a research paper about this!

Dear Reddit Readers!

According to this Counterfeit Culture – Starcraft course is a hoax they are claiming the course is a hoax. Well, if you check out the comments section there is a student claiming he did attend. What do you think?

So the question now is, when can we major in a Bachelors of Starcraft Science?

Either way, here is a description of the course

Cuil – Google FINALLY gets a rival?

July 31st, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Tech News by Diego | - [Full Entry]

What happens when you get three ex senior Googlers? Cuil. According to its website, their search engine boasts 3x the amount of content than Google and 10x the amount on Yahoo. While checking it out, I was a little enticed. The “darker” theme for searching was neat and the way results are shown are something worth checking out. – Source

It still seems it doesn’t have ALL the sites on the internet. A search for Talk Binary…doesn’t show my site. I’m ranked #3 on Google, and #1 on Yahoo for that same keyword but not on this new search engine? Many websites are complaining the results aren’t too relative to the keywords so you shouldn’t bother with it right now. Maybe in the future?
