So how does it work? Simply run the Wubi installer, enter a password for the account, choose some basic options, and click “Install”. Yes, it’s that simple. It’s not going to take any modifying of your partitions or boot loader. It just works like any other application. Yes, it’s that simple. If you don’t like it, simple uninstall it like any other application. Best of all, it’s free.

I’ve used it and to be honest, it’s great. Wubi is hassle free and extremely easy to use. Like mentioned, it’s extremely easy to uninstall and no need to worry about something going wrong.

What to know about Wubi

Below are somethings that you should know about Wubi before you try it out.

• Read the Wubi FAQ if you want to know how it works and answers to many of your questions
• To make it easier, pre-download the ISO and save it to the same directory where Wubi is extracted. That way, the installer doesn’t need to download it every time you run it.
• You can force Wubi to use a 32-bit verison of Ubuntu if you follow the previous step
• All you need is 256MB of RAM and an 1GHz or faster Intel/AMD processor is recommended for optimal performance. Installation requires 5GB. Bought your computer within the past 3 years? You should be fine.

PhotoXpress is another great stop for those looking for free stock photography. They currently offer over 410k photos that are available for download once you register for free.

So is PhotoXpress really free?

Yes, the only catch is you can only download one photo per day. Want to increase it? Then fill out your profile and you can download an additional 5 per day. If you want even more, connect your account with Facebook and it will grant you an additional 4 per day.

I’ll be trying it out as it seems an excellent resource as the images are great for using within posts, and layouts as well.

Adium’s Features

First of all Adium is Open Source allowing anyone to contribute. It has a slick UI with tabbed chats that simply look good. Also contains an extensive system notification with the ability to download custom themes as well.

Getting ready to edit your template to make a website

In this part of our series you will start editing your template to make your website. Don’t worry, I’ll guide you every step of the way so you don’t get lost.

What do you need?

1. The BigSpaceLove template found on Free-CSS-Templates
2. A browser to open your website. (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox…)
3. A text editor to edit your website. Preferably one that supports syntax highlighting. Programmer’s Notepad is free and is what I’ll be using.

Start editing the template

Open up index.html using your text editor. If you remember the basic structure of a website we taught you can notice that it is the same way the html file is structured.

• The header contains “Website Title” and “Subheader, website description H2″ in this case
• The body is separated into a left section containing the content the and a right section containing the menu.
• The footer contains information about the person who created the template.

You will notice these sections are denoted with the following tag in the HTML document:

The <div> </div> tag

You can think of the div tag as a section within your HTML document. They will usually be named after the sections described above.

Making and viewing changes to your website

To make a change, simply save the index.html file at any time. Then open it using any browser. Once the page is open, you can refresh it thereafter whenever you make a change to the html file.

Changing the title of your website

Let’s change the title of our website. Currently it says Big Space. Look for the following code in the html file.

<title>Big Space</title>

It should be enclosed within the section. This section is used for placing information about the website such as meta tags, links to the css stylesheet, and the title of the site.

Let’s change the title to whatever you want. I’ll name it the following:

<title>Let's talk Binary!</title>

Now view the changes you have made using the steps I provided earlier. See what happened? The title of our website changed, this isn’t visible on the page itself but in your browser.

Editing the Header Section

Now let’s go ahead and change the “Website Title”. Look for the following.

<h1><a href="#">Website Title</a></h1>
<h2>Subheader, website description H2</h2>

I’ll be changing it to the following.

<h1><a href="index.html">Let's Talk Binary!</a></h1>
<h2>Eliminating the barrier between code and people</h2>

If you noticed, I change “#” to “index.html” above. “Let’s Talk Binary!” is encapsulated with the <a> </a> tag making it a link. Whenever you click on it, it will take you to the index.html page which is the current page your on.
It is also encapsulated with the <h1> </h1> tags, making it a header.

The <a> <h1> tag

The <a> seen is used to create a link to another document with the source being “index.html” in our case.

The <h1> tag defines headings. The values range from 1 to 6. 1 being the largest.

Now save and view changes. Isn’t this easier than you thought?

Finding the right template

Finding the correct template for your needs can be quite tricky. For example, I needed something clean and fresh while maintaining a level of professionalism so I decided to go with the layout found on my personal website. If you noticed, you can get a nice looking website once you find the right template.

But how did I find it first of all? I simply dug around the internet. Google for me was a great place to start but for those that need help, I’ll show you a couple of sites that will give you a head start.

Note for tutorial

For purposes of the tutorial I encourage everyone to use BigSpaceLove found on the front page of Free-CSS-Templates so you can follow me step by step. This template is fairly easy to edit.

So once I have a template what now?

You are almost there. Once you have a template all we have to do is set up our environment, and start editing! (Remember, to use BigSpaceLove found on the front page of Free-CSS-Templates so you can follow my tutorial step by step.)

Streamripper allows you to download streams using Winamp. I found this after visiting Shoutcast, a directory of radio stations you can listen using your browser or favorite media player. I started listening to some great hip-hop mixes on .977 Hitz and I wanted to record them to play them later. That is when I found Streamripper.

How Dia Works

With Dia, you simply choose the type of chart you want to create. Then you are given an empty workspace with a toolbar with object. Simply drag and drop them onto the workspace. You can align to grid, place them in front or back, and even place text in them with ease. You can also create arrows to show the flow of data or relationships. Don’t worry, it isn’t a hassle to edit and modify charts in Dia. You simply need to click on the object and move around or delete as you please.

Cubecraft – Simply download, print, cut, and fold!

Are you ready? Simply head over to Cubecraft and fold away to your favorite character! All characters are distinguished by a scissor rating. The more scissors it contains, the more difficult it is. There are about a hundred characters or more, so you are bound to find something you like.

Cubecraft doesn’t require any special skill or tools. All you need is patience, scissors, and if possible a hobby knife (of course, after you print it out, the thicker the paper the better).

I decided to make Kirby since it seemed to be the simplest one and I also since I love the character. It took me approximately 7-10 minutes to complete. So it wasn’t bad. It did bring back memories of playing Kirby SuperStar on the SNES (which was an awesome game imo).

How to start Programming in ML

The Standard ML of New Jersey provides an interactive compiler for Windows, Linux, amongst others. SML/NJ distribution files are available freely to download.

Install SML/NJ in Windows

Simply download the appropriate windows installer at SML/NJ distribution files. After downloading, simply install the files with the installer, restart your computer, and the program is available to run from then on.

Install SML/NJ in Linux

To install SML/NJ in Linux simply complete the following steps.

1. Open your terminal
2. Type in sudo apt get-install smlnj
3. Complete installation
4. To run smlnj, type in smlnj in your compiler
