The MacRumors Buyer’s Guide is designed to provide the best recommendations regarding the current lifetime of an Apple product as well as the current rumors for each of the models available.

For example, if you were considering buying an Apple product such as a Macbook Pro, iPod Touch, iPhone, iPod, iMac, or anything Apple related, you need to check this guide first. Why? You might end up buying a product which could be seeing a release with increased features and specs for the same price if you would just wait until its release!

Go ahead, and take a look. Their section on iPod Touch or any iPod related device mentions Don’t Buy – Updates Soon. That means, don’t buy it, updates are on their way! The new iPod Touch is rumored to contain a possible front facing “Facetime” compatible camera, and a rear camera as well. Not mentioning the new A4 processor. So yeah, if you were thinking of buying an iPod, don’t.

The MacRumors website itself is an excellent resource for finding out the latest rumors on the internet. You don’t have to be digging into your favorite tech blog to find out the latest, just check this site out.

I’m already ready to upgrade my first generation iPod Touch so I keep my eyes peeled when I see new “rumors” popping up on the net.

iFixIt – Do it yourself repair

Have you ever wanted to repair any of your electronic devices but you wanted to do it yourself? iFixit contains multiple iFixit Guides for all types of devices such as Macbooks, iPods, iPhones, Game Consoles, Mobile Devices, Vehicle Repair, among many others.

The guides themselves are very detailed as they provide detailed images when needed and describe precisely how to follow each step. If you need some parts, they also have some in stock which you can purchase through their store. If for some reason there isn’t a guide on the website to fix your problem, simply post a question on the particular device page.

If you’ve been following my Talkbinary’s Photostream, you would have realized my iPod Touch 1st Gen screen had cracked! Fortunately, I met someone who fixed it for me and it came back looking like it had never happened before.

Overall Impressions

If you ever come across a device you need to repair, be sure to visit this website out first. Maybe it can help you fix your device without having to pay a costly repair fee. Plus, you might have fun while you are at it! I’m hoping that the answer to Optical drive not spinning up for PlayStation 2 Slimline actually works since I have a friend who’s been asking me about it.

Beginning iPhone Development

Yes, Talk Binary is getting into the iPhone Development business and I’ll be sharing with you how our progress goes on. Mind you, I’m also in the midst of graduating from college, so this is more like a extracurricular project. I plan on first learning how to use the software development kit provided by Apple. Once I’ve learned the ropes, I plan on probably making a simple application then to something serious. Maybe a general utility app, or a simple puzzle game. I’ll probably even go ahead and make a mobile version of Talk Binary with their platform so you could add it as a web app on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Beginning iPhone 3 Development

UCR recently held a seminar from an iPhone developer from Apple and the presenter recommended Beginning iPhone 3 Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK. I remembered the exact book since I searched it on Amazon and it was the first entry under iPhone Programming. I was convinced on purchasing it primarily because the presenter did a good job on the presentation he gave. He talked about the iPhone platform, the market, some neat applications, and different ways you could make an application.

The interesting part of his presentation came when he actually showed us how to create a very simple application. The first one was a flashlight which required no coding since the blank screen is actually…well a blank application. That was nice to know. Then he showed us how to create a simple application with UCR’s alma mater and surprisingly enough, not many people in the crowd knew it. Way to go school spirit or was it because we were Computer Science students? Either way, this motivated me to go ahead and try development on my own since if he could make a simple application in half an hour, I could make a more sophisticated time with more time, right?.

So what’s next for Talk Binary in iPhone Development?

Below is a rough sketch of my planning for my iPhone development so you kind of have an idea where I’m going.

Learn the sdk
Make a simple web application: mobile version of Talk Binary
Come up with a simple game just to test the waters
Create something more serious like a general utility app or a simple puzzle game

I was user of AIM with my iPod touch but lately all the crashing and lagging made me make the switch to Beejive. So far? I’m loving it.

Beejive is worth the $9.99

Sure, $9.99 does sound like a lot. Considering I don’t have a texting plan, I didn’t mind forking over the money. I was skeptical at first but it comes with a great variety of features.

Connect to Facebook, MySpace, AIM, Yahoo, Hotmail, and more…
Desktopish type of application – Comes will all types of features you’d expect out of a desktop application
Apply themes to conversations and the application itself
Push notifications alerting you of new messages
No lag and minimal crashing
Easy to switch over to conversations and preview last message your buddy sent
Overall, feels slick and sexy. Even the icon looks good on my home bar
Vertical and Horizontal typing. Your current typing in progress is displayed on a transparent bubble which optimizes your chatting viewing area.

So if you are looking for another instant messaging application on the iPhone/iPod Touch, try out Beejive. So far its been the best looking and working instant messaging application I’ve used.
